THE MOELWYNION
English
Carregysgafn, Hydd, Bach and Mawr
The Moels and the Moelwyns, the hills of the range
Sit regal high above a sylvan vale.
Leviathan backs of grass and hard stone
Where Sheep castaways shelter on islands of grey rock
Among Sargassos of wet tussocks and sphagnum filled bog.
Punctured where men sought precious blue slate,
Hillsides scattered with the detritus of their toil.
Tramways and inclines lost to rail and wheel
And long quiet buildings consumed by the earth.
Hills resounding with ghostly labours
Of ceaving, splitting working slate and stone
And great dry stone structures, testament
To the labours of work hardened men.
But here there are also great ridges that sweep
Up to narrow arêtes, summits and natural keeps.
A primal ruggedness of unique rock and stone
A landscape made in fire and shaped by ice
Eroded by elements of rain, hail and sleet,
Where slate meets stone and water meets grass
Shaped by centuries of nibbling sheep.
These hills tell of adventures, leisure and sun,
Of rain lashed runs and wind battered walks.
And of cutting climbing teeth on stone and crag
And of hammering my bodies over turf rock and grass.
They are much cherished by some as a place to be free,
Free to climb, free to walk, free to be.

Carregysgafn, Hydd, Bach a Mawr
Y Moelau a'r Moelwynion, mae'r bryniau
yn eistedd yn frenhinol uwchben y dyffryn coediog.
Tirweddau o laswellt anferth a cherrig caled
ble mae defaid alltud yn mochel ar ynysoedd o gerrig llwyd
ymhlith sargosos o glystrau gwlyb a chorsydd llawn migwyn
Wedi eu tyllu gan ble canfu dynion lechen las ddrudfawr,
Llethrau gydag olion eu gwaith ar eu hyd a'u lled.
Tramffyrdd ac inclêns, rheiliau ac olwynion
ac adeiladau tawel wedi eu llyncu gan y ddaear.
Bryniau yn atseinio ysbrydion eu llafur
Y cerfio a hollti llechi a cherrig
a strwythurau waliau sych yn dystiolaeth
o waith dynion mewn caledi.
Ond yma hefyd, mae cribau gwych yn ysgubo
i gopaon a thrysorau naturiol.
Hagrwch cyntefig y cerrig hynafol
Tirlun wedi ei wneud mewn tân ac wedi ei siapio gan rew
Fe'i erydwyd gan yr elfennau – glaw, cenllysg ac eirlaw,
ble mae llechi yn uno â'r cerrig a dwr yn uno â'r glaswellt
wedi ei siapio gan ganrifoedd o ddefaid llwglyd.
Mae'r bryniau hyn yn gweiddi antur, hamdden a haul,
rhedeg yn wlyb socian a theithiau cerdded mewn gwyntoedd cryfion.
A dannedd dringo'n torri ar garreg a chlogwyn
a rhoi 'nghorff drwy uffern dros dywarchen, garreg a glaswellt.
Trysorir y rhain gan rai fel lle i fod yn rhydd,
Yn rhydd i ddringo, yn rhydd i gerdded ac yn rhydd i fod.
