Embroidery / Brodwaith
Alison Holt is a UK contemporary textile artist with a Fine Art Embroidery BA Hons degree from Goldsmiths College, London, specialising in freehand machine embroidery. Alison creates embroidered pictures of landscapes, seascapes, flowers and garden scenes. This beautiful selection of works is all inspired by local coastal scenes using silk painting and free hand machine stitching. Alison uses a basic Bernina sewing machine and just 2 stitches; straight stitch and zigzag to achieve a remarkable effect and detail in her finished works.
It is clear to see Alison’s passion for her work and inspiration from the natural world exploring patterns, rhythms and textures. One feels a sense of calmness and serenity in each piece that transports the viewer to the scene through the combined threads and silk painting that evokes an emotional response reminiscent of holidays and coastal explorations.
Alison is based in Oswestry and is (normally) a regular visitor to the region. She has completed 5 books on her style of ‘thread-painting’ and has created an educational DVD called, ‘Creative Machine Embroidery’. Alison also offers a range of textile course, workshops, demonstrations and lectures in the UK and abroad.
Alison has exhibited widely in the UK, France, Australia and New Zealand. We are thrilled to be showcasing her work in the gallery for the first time during this exhibition.
