Emily’s body of work consists of hand built slab vessels. Her inspiration is the local landscape.

She represents through mark making the textures and lines found on the mountain side and the contrast between the landscape in which she lives . It is explored in this collection by the smooth surface and the ripped edges that are exaggerated naturally by the clay.

She has always been interested in the juxtaposition between nature and man made.

Representation of place and the history it holds is essential to Emily’s working practice. Growing up near a quarry she has always been fascinated by the site itself. The harshness of the landscape and its industrial past and present continue to fuel her making. Creating this body of work has allowed her to develop a closer connection to the quarry.
