Painting / Paentio
Kim is a fine art painter and graduated from Falmouth School of Art in 1980 with a Degree in Fine Art. Kim has always worked in the arts and in more recent years has had more time to dedicate to her own creative work. Originally from Cornwall, Kim has been based in North Wales for more than 30 years and is also married to painter Gerald Dewsbury. She has exhibited widely, and her creative approach is an exploration of what she sees in front of her whilst enjoying the physical properties of paint. Kim aims to give a solidity and reality to her subject matter and a significance to the often-unassuming subject matter.
These paintings are from studies made during walks on the Llŷn Peninsula at Hells Mouth. Kim enjoys exploring her rural surroundings first-hand and relishes that contact with nature. Everything has a story to tell, and in these works Kim highlights the plight of plastic in the ocean and impact on marine life in striking and remarkable detail. The works have an almost surreal quality through the composition bringing life to the plastic form and turning them into their own form of marine life that forms part of a new eco-system. The paintings stir up the imagination and curiosity to the reader whilst giving a realistic reflection on this time that highlights the work needed to be done to restore balance in our oceans. Kim’s paintings are highly collectable, and we are thrilled to welcome her back to the gallery for this exhibition.
