For some reason, in much of the Western world, the dragon has become a symbol of fear, greed and oppression, and yet in many of our ancient Western and modern Eastern cultures the dragon has been recognised as a primal force of creation and a source of great wisdom and good fortune. This young dragon emerging from its egg was painted partly to usher in the Year of the Dragon, celebrated in those Asian countries who still follow the lunar calendar as opposed to the Gregorian Solar calendar, but was also painted to honour the very special relationship this landscape and its people, the Cymru, have to this wonderful mythological creature.

Am ryw reswm, mewn llawer o'r byd Gorllewinol, mae'r ddraig wedi dod yn symbol o ofn, trachwant a gormes, ac eto mewn llawer o'n diwylliannau Gorllewinol hynafol a Dwyreiniol cyfoes mae'r ddraig wedi'i chydnabod fel grym cyntefig a ffynhonnell o ddoethineb mawr a ffawd dda. Cafodd y ddraig ifanc hon sy’n dod allan o’i wy ei phaentio’n rhannol i groesawu Blwyddyn y Ddraig, a ddathlwyd yn y gwledydd Asiaidd hynny sy'n dal i ddilyn y calendr lleuad yn hytrach na'r calendr Solar Gregoaidd, ond fe'i paentiwyd hefyd i anrhydeddu'r berthynas arbennig iawn sydd gan y dirwedd hon a'i phobl, y Cymru, â'r creadur chwedlonol rhyfeddol hwn.
