In about AD829, it is reported that two dragons, one red, the other white became engaged in a ferocious fight. Eventually the Red dragon was the victor and has been celebrated by the Welsh as their national symbol ever since.

Tua AD829 cofnododd Nennius hanes dwy ddraig, un goch, ac un wen, yn ymrafael mewn brwydr ffyrnig. Yn y diwedd y ddraig Goch oedd yn fuddugol ac mae'r Cymry wedi  ei dathlu fel eu symbol cenedlaethol fyth ers hynny.
