The Return of the Dove

The Return of the Dove

Judith Harrison

The Return of the Dove

“For forty days and forty nights it rained and the Earth became flooded. Noah, his wife, his sons  and their wives and an enormous number of  animals survived in a large boat, or ark. After about 200 days the waters began to recede and the Ark came to rest on the side of the mountain. Noah released a dove which returned with an olive branch demonstrating that the earth was no longer water bound and the occupants of the Ark could safely disembark.

The plight of the humans and animals in what must have been a very overcrowded space has similarities to our own experiences over the last few months. The return of the dove symbolises a hope and a new

beginning.”
