The Tree of Life
Judith Harrison
Circle Series III – Yggdrasil – The Tree of Life
“Yggdrasil, a large ash tree is part of Norse Mythology symbolising the tree of life which
stretches outwards and upwards towards infinity. Numerous animals live within the tree including a dragon and an eagle, while stags graze at its
leaves, symbolising the tree’s (and our) inevitable mortality. Beneath the roots the three Norns control the destiny of Men and Gods.
All cultures since the origin of Man have been somehow tied to trees. Through their branches and roots they connect to the Earth and the Heavens to the Underworld and they symbolise the continuity of life, resilience and rebirth.”
