Embroidery / Brodwaith

Suzette is a textile artist and tutor who lives and works in a rural hamlet in North Shropshire. The natural world outside her front door and the familiar journeys along the towpath close by are her greatest source of inspiration for stitching and storytelling. She doesn’t tell all in the first layer but builds a story with collage, thread and a little mixed media. Her work often includes hidden histories in the inherited and found fabrics she uses as well as her own repurposed embroideries.

For these pieces, Suzette has been inspired to create stories from the fragments of pottery that are left behind and the marks left by earthworks and well-trodden paths within the landscape and in "Bird Stories" we find the narrator is a missile thrush who foretells of romance and good fortune.
