Emma is a visual artist based in North Wales, working primarily through drawing and painting. Across her practice, Emma is interested in paying attention to the world around her, including landscape, light, people and the ways in which we connect with place.

Emma's earlier paintings explore landscape and seascape through atmospheric layers of acrylic, responding to shifting light, weather and the emotional qualities of particular places. They reflect a longstanding interest in the restorative and contemplative experience of being within the landscape.

Her  more recent work has moved towards research-led documentary drawing. Emma uses quick, responsive lines of ink, watercolour and water-based pencils to observe people as they work, practise and contribute within their communities. The Tai Chi drawings are part of this ongoing exploration, capturing movement, concentration and shared practice in fleeting moments.

Both approaches are rooted in observation and a desire to slow down and look closely. Her current thinking is informed by meliorism—the belief that the world can be made better through human effort. Whether responding to landscape or documenting people at work, Emma is interested in moments of care, connection and purposeful activity, and in how art can draw attention to their quiet value.
