Katherine has been stitching since the age of eight, beginning with small, simple kits and gradually teaching herself new techniques and skills. After training as a primary school teacher, she taught for ten years, but due to illness left the profession and went on to complete her Certificate at the Royal School of Needlework. She later worked for Heritage Stitchcraft and managed Zweigart’s UK distribution for three years. Since 2003, she has built her own business as a textile designer and tutor, focusing on traditional textiles, embroidery, felt making, and Iron Age textiles.

A significant part of her work still involves teaching and working with children. She runs Timezones, delivering hands-on Living History workshops to schools through artefacts and role play, and she also leads textile workshops, teaching embroidery and felt making to people of all ages in a variety of settings, including museums and community groups.

She describes herself as a complete thread junkie, with a love for all threads—wools, silks, and everything in between. Colours and textures captivate her, and because of that, she dislikes limiting herself to a single style or technique. Instead, she follows whatever inspires her in the moment.

Nature is her greatest inspiration. She loves watching the seasons shift, finding endless fascination in colours and textures. Daily walks with her dogs through woods and mountains constantly spark new creative ideas. Leaves, feathers, seedheads, and similar natural details all inspire her work. She also has a secret fondness for dragons, which, along with her love of nature, aligns beautifully with her passion for Celtic and Norse art.
