The Three Stone Women of Moelfre

One Sunday three women walked up Moelfre, the hill sitting to the North-West of Dyffryn Ardudwy, to winnow their corn harvest because there had not been enough wind the previous week and the grain was needed to make bread. According to tradition the Lord saw them and, as punishment for labouring on the Sabbath, turned them into stone. The stone pillars reflected the colour of the kirtle (dresses) worn by the three women, one being red, the other blue and the third white. Sadly these three stones are no longer to be seen on the hill. It is said that they might have been rolled down the hill by vandals and now lie buried by vegetation in the valley.
