Iain Davidson
Printmaking / Argraffu

Iain is a printmaker specialising in linocuts and often works in multi-layer reduction linocuts. He was first drawn to the linocut by the simple graphic work of Angie Lewin and went onto to attend workshops with Wales-based artists, Ian Phillips and Ann Lewis to explore and develop his own unique style.

Iain lives in Crewe and in early 2019 visited Oriel Tŷ Meirion for the first time on a mini break becoming the first artist in residence here. Much of Iain’s work considers our relationship to the land through history by considering layers of time beneath our feet; our life built upon our ancestors’ influence hidden around and below us. To quote Iain, ‘We stand, not on the shoulders of giants, but on the strata of everyday life that’s gone before us.’

He is currently studying for a Masters degree in Contemporary Art & Archaeology at the University of the Highlands and Islands in Orkney.
